Terra Firma Building and Remodeling Testimonial

Terra Firma Building and Remodeling started twenty years ago with me as the sole owner and with one employee.   In 2013, thirteen years later we had 26 employees and had become known as one of the top custom remodeling firms in the Twin Cities.    At that point, in 2013 we transitioned to an employee-owned worker cooperative.   We had 26 employees and 8 of them became owners that year. Now, seven years later we have 28 employees and 20 of them are owners.

I have continued to serve as the President and Company Manager.   One of the highlights of my career has been to start a company from scratch and watch it become a successful business – not only financially but also culturally, where each employee has an opportunity to become an owner. Our Board of Owners and, in particular, our Management Committee has continued to grow its responsibilities and role in governance.     We have increased our annual sales from $6 million in 2013 to $10 million in 2019. The unique structure of the Worker Cooperative has definitely been a great fit for our company and given us a path to achieving our fullest potential. There is no doubt in my mind that the Worker Cooperative model has been one of our keys to success!
